Seasonal Pet Care Tips

Cool Weather Tips:

cool weather pet care
  1. Always protect your pets from extreme cool weather by providing adequate shelter. We suggest you bring your pets indoors at night for all weather conditions below 60ºF or above 87ºF.  Insulate your pet’s living quarters and provide fresh un-frozen drinking water at all times.
  2. Never leave your pets unattended in climate conditions where you yourself are cold.
  3. Brush your pet regularly to spread natural oils in the coat and keep it fluffy to hold more heat. Use a good quality slicker brush available at your favorite pet supply store.
  4. Buy your pet a quality sweater and jacket. Clean and fluff regularly to help hold the heat.
  5. Large areas of concrete will freeze like a block of ice. Protect your pet with shelter and water proof padding on the ground.
  6. Remember, if you are comfortable, your pets are comfortable.
  7. In addition to providing clean drinking water at all times, mix room temperature water with food to maintain hydration.

Warm Weather Tips:

  1. Always protect your pets from extreme warm weather by providing adequate shelter. Shade your pets living quarters and provide fresh drinking water at all times.
  2. Never leave your pets unattended in vehicles or closed quarters.  Without adequate circulation, temperatures quickly raise to levels that can kill pets.
  3. Brush your pet to remove the undercoat that naturally sheds twice a year.  Use a good quality slicker brush available at your favorite pet supply store. Brush thoroughly, until all loose hair is removed. This step prevents undue build up of body heat.
  4. Large areas of shaded concrete will retain coolness throughout the day and help keep your pets cool.
  5. Remember, if you are comfortable, your pets are comfortable.
  6. In addition to providing clean drinking water at all times, mix room temperature water with food to maintain hydration.
